Highly Commended

Ipswich Art Prize 2023

Ex Tenibris Lux

I was awarded a mentorship with renowned artist Kellie O’Dempsey with will commence August 2023. My solo exhibition Ex Tenibris Lux will follow this in the Bomb Shelter Space of The Condensery in September 2023

Ex Tenebris Lux

Opening 23 Aug 2023 at The Condersery,

Toogoolawah, Queensland, Australia.

Having birthed two magnificent lives into this world I was filled with so much loved and pride yet something within me had simultaneously disappeared or was at least hiding deep in a place I couldn’t find. This body of work is a journey of how those sinewy packages of dirty toes and sleepless nights found me and dragged me, The Artist out into the light.

The images are essentially about finding moments of calm and clarity amongst the madness of motherhood. It’s about the mundaneness of those endless duties and how they become filled with light, life and art.

I intentional use of light, shadow, texture and grain in the works to demonstrate those elements in my every day life.  All works are shot on Silver gelatine film and processed by hand . While I can and do print my own work in the Darkroom I wanted these works to be large and impactful, for the viewer to emerged themselves to those moments captured.

Printed large format on vinyl.

Where We Meet

Finalist - Emerging Artists

Queensland Regional Art Awards 2023

This image photographed on medium format still film and hand processed explores perspective from psychological view point. It tussles with the different personas often harboured within us. In my case, it’s the mother verses the artist. We experience the world from totally different perspectives yet there is a sweet point, and calculated consolidation where those identities create something extraordinary.

Using texture, shadow and reflection the image invites the viewer to contemplate perspective both from a personal and universal point of view. The inverted image, coupled with the amalgamating shadow and reflections creates a sense of whimsical wonder throughout the scene.

Where We Meet’ creatively cerebrates the diverse tapestry of internal perspective, amongst the reality of an external environment.
